Research Interest(s)

Professional Activities and Interests:
I serve as the Dissemination Activities Director (D.A.D.) for policy-oriented genomics projects in the Department of Health Management and Policy, the Center for Public Health and Community Genomics, and the Life Sciences and Society Program, University of Michigan School of Public Health. Publications span the distance from technical aspects of genomics (long QT syndrome, family history and coronary heart disease) to socio-ethical aspects (ELSI research and pedagogy). My work brings me in touch with a variety of medical and public health specialists. Often I serve as the technical and research specialist for projects, both in primary and supportive roles, conducting statistical analysis and literature synthesis. I have been involved in a range of racial-ethnic and faith-based community genomics projects for more than 10 years. I co-teach “Issues in Public Health Genetics” at the University of Michigan. This course looks at genetics from multiple perspectives and motivates students to seek policy solutions for the issues they are examining. I also enjoy probing and writing about the deeper philosophical and religious implications of genomic developments.

Projects:
Education for Community Genomic Awareness, Midwest Community Genomics Forums, Research Community on Genetics and Racial-Ethnic Identity, Interfaith Religion and Science Dialogue, APHA Genomics Forum (Policy Committee).

Personal Interests:
Family, Literature Reading Groups, Philosophical Exploration and Writing, Exercise (When Time Allows).
